3000 Preparatory Course for Engineering

Target Group and Admission Requirements

Completed VK1 (trade-school education), primary and lower secondary school and a minimum of 5 years of work experience, prior experimental learning or VK2 (general education).

Aim of the Programme

The preparatory course is intended for those who have a vocational education background or practical experience, or others who lack the necessary theoretical courses from upper secondary school which is required to apply for admission to general engineering studies programmes. There is no specialisation – specialisation is chosen when applying for admission to an engineering programme. The course does not satisfy general admission requirements to higher educational programmes.

Completing this one-year study programme will require dedication and motivation. It consists of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Norwegian, English and Social Sciences. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are necessary to build a platform for engineering studies. The subjects Norwegian and English have a more practical approach than the corresponding courses in general education / economics and business subjects.

The course qualifies the candidate to apply for admission to engineering and maritime study programmes.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching of mathematics and science subjects combines lectures and exercises in small groups. Instruction in the other subjects will mainly be based on classroom teaching. Most subjects are taught over two semesters. Grades will be given in all subjects based on examinations, submitted work, laboratory reports and final examinations.
