Course Objectives

Knowledge on how voltage surges appear in and affect a high voltage network. Also, system components of high voltage installations.

Course Description

Lightning surges and their propagation in an electric network, coupling surges, temporary surges. High voltage components: cables, fuses, switches, and surge arresters. Electric breakdown mechanisms. The application of relevant computer programs.

Learning Methods

Lectures, exercises, laboratory work, and a field trip.

Assessment Methods

Under way exams and tests (30 %), final exam (70 %).
