Norwegian Language: Intermediate Level 2601

Course Objectives

This course will allow students to consolidate their basic Norwegian writing and speaking skills. Students will also expand their vocabulary, learn language structures and develop their confidence in the use of the language. They will gain an understanding of Norwegian culture, and read, write about and discuss current issues.

Course Description

This intermediate language course is aimed at students with a basic knowledge of the Norwegian language. The course develops the students’ basic knowledge of Norwegian grammar and pronunciation and their oral and written comprehension. It will also stimulate natural and spontaneous conversation. Students will expand their vocabulary and develop their language structures while exploring the local community culture. Conversation and composition topics will relate to present-day Norway, historical events and current issues discussed in the media.

Learning Methods

Fall or spring term, 4 hours of lectures per week. (This course is offered on a rotational basis)

Lectures, conversation and discussion practice in groups, individual study, short response papers, essays, oral presentations, and community interaction. Norwegian is the language of instruction.

Assessment Methods

Weekly homework assignments, pass/fail; two semester tests counting 50 % and a final written/oral examination counting 50%. All of the assessed elements must receive passing marks in order to pass the course.
