Course Objectives

Part I – Web publication:

Through the study of the theoretical syllabus and practical exercises students will gain knowledge of how the Internet is constructed, how it functions and what it is used for. Students will develop skills which will enable them to contribute actively to the flow of information on the web.

Part II - Digital images, video and presentation tools

The module will provide students with insight into, and experience of, how modern technology may be used to manage digital images and video on the web, and also in the effective use of presentation tools.

Course Description

Part I:

The structure and function of Internet. The HTML standard and other documentation standards which are relevant for the web. Development of static web documents with style sheets. Introduction to what constitutes good web design. Use of sound, images and video on the web. Practical exercises in the development and publication of web pages using software packages.

Part II :

Theory and practice regarding basic techniques for the acquisition, manipulation, saving and presentation of digital images and video. Use of equipment such as cameras, scanners and video projectors. Presentation tools such as PowerPoint.

Learning Methods

Part I: Seven 3-hour lessons in the computer lab.

Part II: Total of 7 lessons, each one consisting of 3 lecture hours and 3 hours practice in the computer lab.

Assessment Methods

An individual assignment which must be submitted and counts for 50 % of the course grade, and a 4-hour final examination. The content of both Part I and Part II will be assessed in both the assignment and the examination.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
