Course Objectives
Acquire knowledge of
-some functional groups as alkanes, alcohol, aromatic substances, carboxylic acid etc.
-the most important reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry
-nomenclature IUPAC-system
-physical and chemical properties of the functional groups
Course Description
Bondings in organic chemistry, overview of the functional groups, nomenclature, nucleophiles, electrophiles, resonance effect, steric effect, reaction mechanisms. The most important reaction mechanisms for different functional groups. General mechanisms for substitution, elimination and addition mechanisms.
Learning Methods
Lectures and exercises.
Assessment Methods
There will be two written individual examinations.
Each counts 50% of the final score.
To pass the course the student has to satisfy as minimum the qualitative description of credit character E. In additon each of the two individual written exams have to be minimum 20% correct.
