Project Management and Cost Engineering FM3106
Course Objectives
Learn how to structure a project, analyze risk and execution strategy, develop an organization and plan for project execution.Further, assess cost estimation techniques relevant for a specific project and have the fundamental knowledge in order to develop a cost estimate and perform an investment analysis (incl. net-present value method). An understanding ofenvironmental, process safety and risk management principles should be obtained, together with a fundamental insight in planning and execution of construction projects, including environmental, risk, cost, scheduling, and project control aspects.
Course Description
Definition of project and project management, Cost engineering: cost estimation and cost control, phases in projects and needed estimate types, project stakeholders and definition of project objectives, project organizations, the building/construction process, Contracts and Contract Formats, payment forms, investment analysis, time scheduling, Scope Analysis, risk management incl. techniques like Hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and overall Project Control. An introduction to environmental, risk and process safety management principles is given.
Learning Methods
Lectures, group work/homework, guest lecturers and/or field trips.
Assessment Methods
The final test counts 100%.All homework assignments and exercises in the course are, however, relevant for the final test.
