Course Objectives

This course places special emphasis on preparing students for work on their Master’s Thesis.

Course Description

The course provides an introduction to various scientific methods employed in cultural studies viewed from humanist and social sciences perspectives, and focuses on the following:
Various research traditions, drafting of project descriptions, the relation between theory and empirical methods, text analysis, examination of historical sources, qualitative interviews, participatory observation and the writing of papers.

Learning Methods

Lectures, seminars and practical exercises, up to 30 hours.
The course includes the completion of practical exercises.

Assessment Methods

Submission of a written project description of the Master’s thesis at the start of the 2nd semester. Submission of written work during the course, see under ‘Examination and Assessment’ in the study plan.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
