Environmental Law and Management 4215

Course Objectives

The course will provide an introduction to administrative procedures and insight into legal thinking. It will also provide practice in the use of the legal framework that is necessary in order to exercise public authority in administrative cases related to natural resources, pollution and people’s health. In addition, the course will provide an introduction to the main tools and methods that are used in the management of the environment.

The Freedom of Information Act

Introduction to the legal frameworks that are important in the management of the environment, for instance:

The Pollution Control Act

The Product Control Act and the Gene Technology Act

The Road Traffic Act

The Local Government Act

Analytical tools and methods used in the management of the environment.

Learning Methods

60 hours of lectures.

Assessment Methods

A 5-hour examination which counts for 100% of the final grade. In order to take the examination the student must submit an assignment for approval; the assignment will demonstrate his/her maturation with regard to acquirement of the subject matter.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
