Course Objectives

  • Become acquainted with the history of quality management. Acquire an understanding of the key quality-related concepts. Be able to contribute to working in an effective team. Understand the importance of process in quality-related work. Be able to apply the basic TQM tools in dealing with deviations, standardisation and quality improvement.
  • Understand and be able to use Lean Manufacturing tools to streamline work processes. Lean Manufacturing has its origin in the Japanese automotive industry immediately after the Second World War. The world’s automotive industry was turned upside down when cheap Japanese cars were able to out-compete American and British products amongst others. Lean Manufacturing has been further developed and is now even more relevant. Lean Manufacturing and modern logistics ideas are closely related to each other.
  • Become familiar with HSE Regulations and the background to the regulations. Become familiar with the range of internal-control and HSE activities in enterprises of different kinds / sizes. Be able to demonstrate how businesses can work in a systematic manner in making health, safety and security improvements.

Assessment Methods

Project work (40%) and final examination (60%).
In order to take the examination your project must first be approved.
