Norwegian as a Second Language - Preparatory Course FO1801S/E

Course Objectives

Knowledge aims: Students will acquire knowledge of how language is used as a communicative tool, and knowledge of the main features of Norwegian literature from mid-19th century to the present.
Skills: Students will develop skills in using Norwegian (orally and in writing) as a communicative tool in different genres and in relation to context, situation and goals.
General skills’ aims: Students will in a reflective and reasoned way learn to use their knowledge and skills in the execution of various assignments, both independently and in groups.

The following course units in FK 2008-1 Norwegian:

- Gathering information and cooperation
- Literature
- Language and the communication process
- Written presentations
- Oral representations

Learning Methods

- Lectures
- Assignments individually and in groups
- Project work

Assessment Methods

Compulsory attendance in all lessons.

Roughly 4 compulsory assignments - pass / fail.
Portfolio grade:
Projects (interdisciplinary), presentations, specialised course and tests. Counts 60% of the final grade.
All the elements must be included in the portfolio, and the portfolio must receive a passing grade before the student will be permitted to sit the examination.
Final examination:
Final 5-hour examination that counts 40% of the final grade.
Both the portfolio and final examination must receive passing grades in order to receive a passing grade for the course.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
