Course Objectives
Students will be able to create and adapt various movement games to the needs of children, adolescents and adults through experimentation and collaboration and based on fundamental movements, sport, dance and outdoor activities.
Course Description
3 ECTS credits, 1st year / one-year study programme
The work with the target area “play” will emphasise understanding of play, and its importance to children’s development. In working with the target area, emphasis will be given to movement and play in practice. The following topics will be emphasised:
- Children and play
- Play in KL-06
- Traditional games
- Play in the natural environment
- Movement and play in the gym
2 ECTS credits, 2nd year
Play in the 2nd year of study will be a continuation of practical play activities from the first year of study. Work on the theme of play will focus on a theoretical understanding of play, the importance of play for children’s development and the planning of play activities and play environments. The following topics will be emphasised:
- Children and play, theory
- Play in KL-06
- Planning play: project assignment
Learning Methods
3 ECTS credits, 1st year / one-year study programme
The target area includes both theory and practice. The following teaching and learning methods will be used:
- Problem-based and discovery learning
- Group work
- Lectures
- Supervision
Students are responsible for their own learning through their own initiative by seeking knowledge through literature and articles, co-students and guidance.
2 ECTS credits, 2nd year
Lectures in theoretical courses and student-run practical activities with children in a natural setting.
Assessment Methods
3 ECTS credits, 1st year / one-year study programme
Mandatory requirements:
- At least 80% participation
- Completed assignments: pass / fail
Each course unit must receive a passing mark before the major course unit can receive a passing mark.

2 ECTS credits, 2nd year
Student project assignment facilitating play with children in a natural setting; Report: Pass / fail.
Each course unit must receive a passing mark before the major course unit may be given a passing mark.
