Course Objectives
The goals of major course unit 2 are that the students:
- have knowledge of the development of children and adolescents.
- are able to intervene in families to protect the health of children and adolescents.
- are able to apply knowledge of sexual health matters in the supervision of young people.
- develop a personal and reflective public health nurse role.
- are able to evaluate the conditions for health and threats to health at various levels.

Course unit 2.1: Children and Youth’s Growth, Development and Health in Modern Society

Course unit 2.2: Interaction Parents/Children/ Youth
- Children, adolescents and family in a cultural perspective
- Theories on growing up and attachments

Assessment Methods

Children/adolescents’ development
Written group assignment with an oral presentation of a topic selected by the students related to the development of children and adolescents.
Written assignment, 5000 words; oral presentation, 30 minutes.

Counselling of parents
Practice in the counselling of parents using a DVD recording and a reflection paper. The student will be given feedback and supervision regarding the recording in groups; 10 minute recording.

Counselling on cohabitation and sexuality
Individual requirements regarding counselling in cohabitation matters, sexuality and contraception including an analysis and reflection paper; 1500 words.
986HEMN2 ST 7
Examination – children and adolescents’ health
Individual home examination, 12 days in major course unit 2, 6000 words.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
