Course Objectives
An overview of how power systems are structured; the importance of the various components of power systems; and performing calculations for power systems.
Course Description
Revision of hydropower systems from hydrology to the consumer. Overview of pipelines, turbine types, generators, transformers, lines / cables, grid systems and load. Island production vs. production networks, power plants with load change. Operational and regulatory capabilities. The greatest emphasis will be on hydropower, but other power sources such as wind and thermal power will also be discussed. International energy and environmental goals will be discussed.
Learning Methods
Lectures, exercises.
Assessment Methods
Simulation exercise (30%) and written final examination (70%).
Students must receive a passing mark on the final examination in order to obtain final grade for the course.
