Modern Norwegian Literature: Film and Fiction 2607

Course Objectives

Students will explore modern works in Norwegian literature (English translations) and film. Students will be able to analyze and compare text and film as expressions of art. Further, students will develop the ability to review modern works critically. Aspects of the cultural context will be included.

Course Description

Four Norwegian novels and their corresponding film adaptations will be studied and discussed. Aspects of the cultural context will be included. A focus will be placed on modern texts and films, and all texts will be read and discussed in English. (Norwegian as required).

Assessment Methods

Portfolio evaluation including: 1 mid-term paper 40%; final written, essay examination 60%. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course. Grade scale A-F, E is the last passing grade.
