Course Objectives
- Students will become acquainted with policies and organisation in the field of Norwegian music, and they will acquire practical insight into the dissemination of music, with a special emphasis on the arrangement of concerts.
- The course will provide students with knowledge concerning the function of music and its important societal role today and in various historical periods.
Course Description
Music and Administration:
This section focuses on concert arrangements at permanent and periodical venues; organisation in the area of music; public music institutions and organisations; music policies and public steering documents; and public funding and funding applications.
Music and Society:
This part of the course focuses on music aesthetics, music sociology, music psychology and music history:
Music Mediation (course code 283) is one of three elective courses in the second year of study. Mediation broadly interpreted is a central topic of the course. The teaching focuses on providing an account of the area of study as well as presenting research-based reports relevant to the field of music.
Some of the course literature is written in Danish, Swedish and English.
Assessment Methods
An obligatory written assignment related to “Music and Administration” which counts 40% of the final grade. 5-hour written final examination related to “Music and Society” which counts 60 %. Graded marks. Students must receive passing grades in both parts of the assessment in order to achieve a passing grade for the course.
Lettered grades, A (highest passing grade) – F (fail).
