Norwegian Language: Advanced level 2609
Course Objectives
After completing this course, students will have attained a level of competence in written and spoken Norwegian which will allow them to participate actively in the academic context and in Norwegian society.
Course Description
This course is highly recommended for students who desire to reinforce and develop their intermediate language skills in Norwegian, and who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Norwegian culture in the past and present. In addition to a variety of classroom activities, students will be given the opportunity to engage actively in the local community.
Learning Methods
4 hours per week, 13 weeks, fall semester (the course is offered on a rotational basis)
Lectures, discussion, essay writing, reading and discussing literature and newspaper articles, group work, impromptu presentations, interviews in the local community, individual study, laboratory exercises. Norwegian is the language of instruction.
Assessment Methods
Portfolio including: 5-7 mandatory homework assignments, semester paper, two semester tests 40%; the final written/oral exam counts for 60%. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course.
