Course Objectives

The target group is students who require basic training in Spanish language and culture. Students must fulfil general admission requirements but an upper secondary school certification in Spanish is not a necessary requirement for admission to this A-level course. Students who have studied Spanish at upper secondary school should take a placement test to ensure they are allocated to the right course.

The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic introduction to modern Spanish, so that on completing the course they will be able to carry on daily conversations in Spanish at an elementary level.

Learning Methods

Lectures and seminars as well as oral practice. Attendance at the seminars is obligatory. Students are expected to put effort into their studying and participate actively in the instruction.

Assessment Methods

The examination is divided into two parts:

1) A 4-hour written examination which counts for 50% of the final grade.

2) An oral examination (max: 15 minutes) which counts for 50% of the final grade.

The first part of the oral examination involves a conversation in Spanish on a topic which has been covered on the course; and the second part a discussion about texts in Spanish.

Students must receive passing grades in both of the examinations in order to receive a passing grade for the course.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
