Course Objectives

Academic study involves reading and writing academic texts. It is essential that students master both. Through lectures, the theoretical syllabus and practical exercises, the course will provide students with skills that will enable them to write good academic texts.

Course Description

An introduction to how academic texts are organised. How to write texts so that they fulfill academic conventions and communicate content in a professionally acceptable and suitable manner. An introduction to how to write clear, coherent and logically structured texts. Understanding the difference between explanation and discussion. Use of sources and references, and various source citation techniques.

Use of sources / information taken from the Internet. The use of footnotes and endnotes. Correct setup of reference lists.

Learning Methods

Seven 3-hour sessions. The sessions will consist of lectures and practical work with the students’ own texts.

Assessment Methods

A mandatory, individual assignment that will be assessed on a pass / fail basis.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
