Course Objectives
The course aims to provide students with knowledge and insight into the basic concepts and theories of how an organisation functions. Further, students will learn how to use concepts and theories in relation to practical situations or problems which occur in organisations.
Course Description
The course comprises the following main topics:
- Basic concepts, perspectives and central questions in the field of organisation theory
- The formal structure of organisations
- Organisation culture
- Power and conflicts in organisations
- An organisation’s environment
- Individual behaviour and group behaviour in organisations
- Communication in organisations
- Theories concerning decision-making processes in organisations
Learning Methods
3-4 hours of instruction per week during the spring semester.
Assessment Methods
Written examination, 4 hours. During the course students will be given the opportunity to answer two practical assignments (not mandatory). The assignments should preferably be answered in groups of 5-6 students. The assignments should be submitted to the subject teacher who will provide comment and feedback. The aim of the assignments is to provide students with training in using the course material in relation to practical situations or problems which may be encountered in an organisation. The assignments will also provide students with important practical training in preparation for the examination.
