Practical English 2010
Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to improve the student’s ability to express himself / herself clearly and accurately in both written and spoken English. The student will learn to write correct and varied English and to speak the language fluently and precisely.
Course Description
The course will examine various aspects of English usage. The written component will focus on differences in aspects such as style, vocabulary, text flow and genre. The spoken part of the course will stress the student’s pronunciation, emphasis and intonation.
Learning Methods
There are two hours of classroom instruction per week. The teaching is organised to allow active student participation and training in practical skills through the writing of short texts, as well as through verbal presentations.
Assessment Methods
The continuous assessment will consist of written and oral work which jointly count for 60% of the final grade. The final oral or written examination counts for 40%. Students must receive passing grades in both the mid-term and final examinations in order to receive a final passing grade for the course. Grades will be given on a scale from A to F, where E is the lowest passing grade.
