Learning outcome

Students will:
• Develop skills in basic storyboarding.
• Learn filming techniques and how to use a camera.
• Learn basic video and sound editing.
• Acquire knowledge of film grammar and dramaturgy.
• Learn the principles for using imaging in video and multimedia.
• Learn how to work with film within the framework that the school provides.

Course Description

The course will focus on several types of film, and emphasise grammar of film, experimental film and video art. Making a film is all about planning.

The course will consist of the following components:

  • What does it mean to plan making a film?
  • Storyboarding / screenplay
  • Digital video camera, how does it work?
  • Video and sound editing
  • Film grammar
  • Dramaturgy
  • Various genres

Teaching and Learning Methods

Group work. All scheduled work is mandatory.

The course alternates between study/discussion of film and experimenting with and making films. Practical work will be supervised.

The work may be carried out in different locations and will be reviewed in the video workshop and classroom.

Assessment Methods

Making presentations in groups and to all the students enrolled in the study programme is an important part of the learning process: feedback will be given by teachers and fellow students.

Course requirements includes elements from all the course components.

The course will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. For more information please refer to Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations.
