Course Description

Art Lab will be in the form of a contemporary workshop with a given or chosen theme. The project is of an experimental nature and will emphasise idea-development and interdisciplinary subjects and forms of expression. The course will involve discussions, the exchange of ideas and practical creative efforts. Theoretical topics will be associated with the chosen themes, and the students will demonstrate their degree of reflection on their own production (and that of other students) and understanding of subject-theory in written and visual form. The project may involve traditional two-dimensional forms of expression, sculpture, installation, digital media or video.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching will mainly take place in the classroom and consist of demonstrations, practical exercises, guided skills training, lectures and tutorials. In addition to the joint teaching, supervision will be given individually and in groups. Teaching takes place in parallel with assignments and includes an introduction to practical and formal subject areas, and lectures in subject theory or vocational theory. The interaction between creativity, theory and reflection is an important part of the course. The assignments aim to provide students with greater knowledge of the subject, and a broader perspective with regard to their own creative activity. Students are expected to devote considerable effort to studying. Students must submit portfolio assignments on time. These may include, among other things, results of studies, process descriptions, products and reports

Assessment Methods

A final grade will be given on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade.
