Learning outcome

  • Students will become acquainted with policies and organisation in the field of Norwegian art, and they will acquire practical insight into the dissemination of art, with a special emphasis on the arrangement og exhibitions
  • The course will provide students with knowledge concerning the mediation of art and its important societal role today and in various historical periods

Course Description

Art and Administration:

Contemporary Norwegian art: This section focuses on permanent and periodical art exhibitions in galleries, organisation in the area of art and artists, public art instituutions and organisations, art policies and public steering documents and public funding and funding applications

Art and Society:

Arts sociology, theory concerning practices related to mediation of the arts

Mediation of the arts in different arenas: Aesthetics, art sociology, theory related to mediating of the arts

Ways of seeing, experiencing and interpreting art: Art theory with a focus on contemporary art. Writing and talking about art for different audiences

Some of the course literature is written in Danish, Swedish and English

Assessment Methods

An obligatory written assignment which counts for 40% of the final grade. 5-hour written final examination which counts for 60%. Graded marks. Students must receive passing grades in both parts of the assessment in order to achieve a passing grade. The student must also have their participation in the scheduled art projects / exhibitions approved, or have passed an oral examination; as well as approved participation in all the mandatory study trips in order to receive a final course grade.

Lettered grades, A (highest passing grade) - F (fail)

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
