Course Objectives

When students have completed course 10 they will:

• be able to relate critically and reflectively on their own work and on topics in the field of social education
• be able to demonstrate the ability to explore professional issues in a systematic and reflective manner in the field of social education
• be able to show an independent ability to document, quality-assure and evaluate their own work
• be able to further develop understanding and recognition of the importance of knowledge production for professional development by carrying out work that leads to a Bachelor’s thesis

Course Description

The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which functions as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.

Sociology and social anthropology – 4 ECTS credits; scientific theory and research methodology - 2 ECTS credits; general, developmental and social psychology - 2 ECTS credits; general pedagogy and social pedagogy - 1 ECTS credit; medical and natural science topics – 1 ECTS credit; the discipline’s development, ideology and professional roles – 4 ECTS credits; skills and attitudes learning – 5 ECTS credits; welfare work – 1 ECTS credit; communication, interaction and conflict resolution - 5 ECTS credits; work with groups, organizations and networks – 3 ECTS credits.

The student’s area of ​​specialisation and practical training location should be professionally challenging and relevant to the social educator’s core areas of knowledge.

Practical training studies; supervision; seminars; self-study; group work; written and oral presentations.

Assessment Methods

Course code 060-E10: Specialisation – Bachelor’s thesis and oral examination.

The aim of the practical training studies is that students will gain practical experience with social education work, develop ethical reflection and be able to work with their own knowledge, attitudes and skills. Practical training studies will help develop students’ independence and skills in the profession in different arenas, as a preparation for future professional roles.
The practical training studies comprise a workload of 16 ECTS credits of course 10 Submission of the thesis requires that the practical training has received a passing mark.

The Bachelor’s thesis comprises 14 ECTS and is based on the practical training. During the period of practical training, the students should apply social education skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of work which the practical training location is able to accommodate. The student should also obtain the necessary data for the work that will be carried out.
The Bachelor’s thesis is a group assignment, but individual responses can also be approved. Group responses: 8000 to 10, 000 words. Individual responses: 6000 - 8000 words.
Graded marks. The title and grade of the Bachelor’s thesis will be recorded on the diploma.
The individual oral examination will be based on the Bachelor’s thesis. In addition, the student may be asked questions from the obligatory or self-chosen syllabus for the third year, and central concepts and themes from the 1st and 2nd years of study. The Bachelor’s thesis must receive a passing grade prior to taking the oral examination. The grade for the Bachelor’s thesis is given before the oral examination. The oral examination may influence the grade for the assessment assignment 10-1.
