Social Educational Work, Nursing and Care, and Medication Management 060-E7

Course Objectives

When students have completed course 7 they will:

Knowledge

  • Have gained basic knowledge and skills in nursing and care that will qualify them to care for the sick and disabled.
  • Have gained the necessary qualifications which will enable them to take on the legal and professional responsibility that is given to social educators in the areas of pharmacology and medication management.
  • Have gained basic knowledge of first aid.
  • Have acquired the ability to view nursing and care from the viewpoint of both a health worker and a social educator.

Skills

  • Be able to carry out proper nursing and care work / procedures.
  • Be able to carry out proper medication management.
  • Be able to perform the appropriate first aid.

Competence

  • Have the ability to view nursing and care in a social educational perspective

Course Description

The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which function as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.

Medical and natural science topics - 6 ECTS credits; nursing and care - 6 ECTS credits; skills and behavior learning - 2 ECTS credits.

Learning Methods

Procedures training; independent study; students’ own efforts related to skills training; lectures, group and individual written reflections. Seventy-five per cent attendance is required in connection with the practical training (which should be documented on a separate form).

Assessment Methods

Course code: 060-E7: Pharmacology and medication calculation – assessment assignment

Four-hour individual examination under supervision. Pass / fail. Answers must be 100% correct in order to achieve a passing grade in medication calculation. Examination aids: Norwegian Common Directory of Medicines (Felleskatalogen) and calculator.

There are as many as three course requirements, one of which is an individual test of knowledge and skills in nursing and care procedures. The course requirements must be approved before the completion of the course can be approved. The course requirements are described in the course plan.
