- Explain the nurse’s mandate, responsibilities and functions

- Explain the principles of nursing care for elderly patients with functional and failing health in the context of fulfilling basic needs

- The development of nursing as a profession and science
- The modernization of healthcare - from a national and international perspective
Nursing’s scientific basis in
- Nursing and nursing science mandate
- Nursing science’s knowledge forms and knowledge areas
- Scientific theory and method
- Knowledge-based practice in nursing
- Basic concepts, phenomena and theories of nursing
- People’s basic needs from the perspectives of age, gender and culture
- Coping theories – patients’ resources and experience of health
- Nursing in cross-cultural perspective
Nursing’s ethical principles in
- Basic values in nursing, ethical theories and professional ethics
The nurse’s responsibilities and functions in
- Nursing’s social mandate
- The nurse’s various functions
Patient knowledge – elderly patients in nursing homes
- Theories of aging
- Elderly patients’ basic needs - capacity and coping skills
- Patients’ life histories and subjective experiences
- Diseases and age-related changes in various organ systems
- Elderly patients in institutions - risk factors in the patient’s environment
Teaching and Learning Methods
Subject literature studies, digital learning resources, resource lectures and work in learning groups.
Assessment Methods
Individual written examination under supervision - 5 hours. Assessed with a grade.
