Learning outcome
Knowledge
The candidate can:
- Describe a nurse’s responsibilities, functions, and the nursing care that is carried out during the period of practical training
- Integrate knowledge from all of the study programme’s courses in interacting with patients and their families and partners
- Observe the changes related to aging, failing health and life phenomena in patients during the period of practical training
Skills
The candidate can:
- Identify and assess a patient’s resources, coping capacity and ability to meet his/her basic needs in relation to normal functioning and the risk of failing health
- Plan and implement, document and report nursing interventions based on the best available knowledge
- Demonstrate the ability to care for nursing home patients and their families
- Apply basic skills in communication with patients, families and colleagues
- Apply knowledge of communication with patients with cognitive impairment
- Perform basic practical nursing skills independently
General competence
The candidate is able to:
- Comply with laws, regulations, policies and procedures for nursing
- Recognize ethical dilemmas and reflect on relevant choices of action
- Plan, evaluate and disseminate the learning process and learning outcomes, seek and receive guidance
Course Description
Clinical studies - 6 weeks - nursing home with a focus on the integration of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to:
- patient
- nurse
- interaction
- context
Teaching and Learning Methods
Clinical studies - 6 weeks: demonstration - practice - guidance - reflection.
Assessment Methods
Clinical studies, 6 weeks in a nursing home - assessed on a pass/fail basis.
