Learning outcome

After completing the course, students will be able to:

  • Give an account of the content, form and themes of the syllabus texts, and discuss them in their literary historical context

  • Provide a description of the central Norwegian and Nordic authors and their works after 1900, and discuss their literary historical placement
  • Discuss the various literary genres and possess skills in writing text analyses using theoretical terms relating to genre

Course Description

Norwegian literature after 1900.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Spring term, 7 hours per week for 15 weeks. Lectures, seminars and group work.

The course is part of the Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Language with a specialization in Norwegian, as well as the 1-year programme in Norwegian; the course is mandatory for students who wish to be qualified to teach Norwegian in primary and secondary schools.

Assessment Methods

Six-hour mid-term assignment which counts for 40% of the final grade, and a 5-hour final examination which counts for 60%. Both must be written in bokmål. Students must receive passing marks in both the assignment and the final examination.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
