Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:
- Chemistry, and biochemical and physiological processes
- The human body’s anatomical structure, development and function
- How organs and organ systems function and interact
- Infectious agents and their effect upon the organism
- The sources, means, and spread of infection, and infection prevention measures.
Skills
The candidate can give an account of:
- The anatomy, physiological processes and the functions and interaction of organs
- How infectious agents affect the organism.
General competence
The candidate:
- Has insight into, and can communicate, basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiological processes and organ systems.
Course Description
- Basic chemistry, physics and biochemical processes
- Anatomy and physiology
- Infection prevention: microbiology and hygiene
Teaching and Learning Methods
Subject literature studies, digital learning resources, resource lectures and work in learning groups.
Assessment Methods
Written individual examination under invigilation in Anatomy and Physiology – four hours. Assessed with a graded mark.
Written individual examination under invigilation in Microbiology – 11/2 hours. Assessed on a pass/fail basis.
Written individual examination under invigilation in Hygiene – 1 1/2 hours. Assessed on a pass/fail basis.
Students must achieve a passing grade in all the examinations in order to be given a final passing course grade.
