Mental Health Care: Practical Training 982-E3

Learning outcome

Through their practical training, students will be given the opportunity to develop their relational and clinical expertise; they will also gain experience of the professional expertise and organization that they will encounter when working in the discipline.

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate has:

  • Specialised knowledge of the field of practical training’s professional foundation and methodological tools.

Skills

The candidate can:

  • Plan and develop his/her own learning
  • Critically analyse existing theories, methods and interpretations of his/her own practical training and professional practices
  • Work independently with practical, relational and theoretical challenges during his/her period of practical training
  • Use methods of supervision in developing professional reasoning and personal development.

General competence

The candidate can:

  • Act with relational and clinical competence when liaising with users, patients and their families
  • Analyse his/her period of practical training in light of evidence-based practical training.

Assessment Methods

982-E3 Mental Health Care: Practical Training.

Individual written home assignment over 2 weeks; assessed with a grade.

982-E3 ST1 Practical training studies. 10 weeks. Assessed on pass/fail basis.

Course requirements:

  • Reflection notes on evidence-based practical training
  • Individual learning objectives for the period of practical training
  • Supervision
  • Attendance in accordance with the specifications in the curriculum and timetable

The student’s clinical practice must receive a passing mark before he/she may progress further in the study programme.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
