Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate:
- Can explain what Building Information Modelling (BIM) is
- Has knowledge of current drawing standards
- Has basic knowledge of drawing production
- Has knowledge of the main properties of Norwegian building materials
- Has fundamental knowledge of basic foundations, floors, floor dividers, walls and roofs
- Can distinguish amongst the main styles of Norwegian architecture
- Has knowledge of the concepts of design and building practices
Skills
The candidate can:
- Produce digital 2D and 3D models
- Produce construction drawings in accordance with Norwegian standards
- Construct virtual models using BIM software
General competence
The candidate:
- Has knowledge of the field and can apply it to make informed choices concerning building design
- Can plan and complete a drawing assignment
- Can communicate theory and present his/her proposals for solutions
- Can exchange views and discuss solutions in groups and thereby contribute to good design
Course Description
- Training in the use of software for drawing 2D and 3D models (AutoCAD and Revit Architecture)
- Introduction to construction methods
- Architecture and design theory
- Specific tasks
Teaching and Learning Methods
Lectures with examples from real projects.
Training in the use of software.
Individual project in which the student will document the solution he/she has chosen for discussion in groups. The assignment will be developed throughout the semester and must be submitted in three steps. It consists of designing a small building; drawing planning application drawings, working drawings and details; and producing an appropriate list of materials. The whole process will be documented in a portfolio that will include the student’s plans, assessments and designs, and demonstrate the student’s progress throughout the semester.
Assessment Methods
- Portfolio which must be approved in order to pass the course.
- Mid-term examination that counts for 40% of the course grade.
- Final examination that counts for 60%.
- Both examinations must be passed in order to pass the course.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
