Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

  • The management of events based on professional knowledge of the roles and importance of sport in society

Course Description

  • The course covers themes of topical interest associated with the fields of sports, physical education and activities and outdoor life, today and in the future, considered from a social sciences perspective
  • The development of a joint project; students will aim to develop nationwide cooperation with organisations, institutions and enterprises related to the topic they have chosen
  • The joint project will also have an international, comparative perspective. For instance, students will participate in a study trip where the destination is chosen based on the topic of their project.
  • Students will conduct a three-week period of training that will provide them with the ability to apply the knowledge, skills, theories, methods and models they have acquired through their studies. The training will provide a thorough introduction to an organization’s activities and functions and should thus serve as an important link between theoretical understanding of the courses included in the study programme and the sports administration field. This period of training will be carried out in the autumn semester and must be documented in the training report.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching, training, students will work individually and in teams, guidance, study trip, seminars and written reports. The whole student group is responsible for the entire project: choice of topic, approaches, delegation of tasks and responsibilities within the team, organisation of cooperation with others, planning the study trip abroad and the planning and execution of a seminar (the Telemark Conference). The result of the project work will be presented as part of the seminar, and will also be documented in a written report. 80% obligatory attendance.

Assessment Methods

  • Joint submission of a report from the study trip and the Telemark Conference. Pass / fail.
  • Submission of a joint report from the joint project. Pass / fail.

All submissions must be passed in order to pass the course.

75% attendance of the seminars is required.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
