Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
The candidate:
- Has knowledge and understanding of how information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) can contribute to increased efficiency and wealth creation in organisations
- Has knowledge of the different categories of system solutions
- Is able to contribute actively in processes that require good communication between the IT department and other departments
- Has insight into key aspects of planning, organisation and management of IT/IS activities
Course Description
- Information technology’s role in organisations
- Trends , concepts and technology
- Categories of information systems (IS) and strategies for online businesses
- IS for management, decision support, customer care, marketing, financial management, material/production management, DBMS/data warehousing and analysis, service management and social media
- Choice of infrastructure solutions and sourcing strategies
- Architecture and information, assessment of self-development, implementation locally and various cloud-computing services
- Conditions for selecting solutions, IT requirements, legal and organisational requirements
- Development and implementation of IT strategies and plans
- Administration , planning and management of organisational IT/IS solutions , including information management , quality assurance and protection of privacy policy
- Management of development and change processes. Interaction between technology, people and organisations in system and organisational development
- IT/IS and legal aspects, contracts, ethics and norms
- IS and information resources’ role in organisational information processing
Teaching and Learning Methods
3-4 hours of lectures, exercises and supervision per week.
Assessment Methods
Obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the final 4-hour written examination.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
