Introduction to Economics 6042

Learning outcome

After completing the subject the candidate should have the following learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

  • Have basic knowledge of fundamental business management topics
  • Have basic knowledge of selected topics within economics
  • Have an understanding of the economic relationships within a company, relationships between a company and society and how the international dimension affects the company
  • Have the skills to understand the economic situation in the company and
  • Be able to prepare plans in the form of different types of budgets

Course Description

The course covers the following topics:

  • Basic cost and income theory
  • Calculation
  • Accounting and financial analysis
  • Budgeting
  • Investment analysis
  • Market methods
  • Basic macro- and micro economics
  • Basic international economics

Teaching and Learning Methods

6-8 hours of lecturing per week in spring semester. In addition to traditional lectures, there will be emphasis on working with tasks.

Assessment Methods

2-3 compulsory assignments. Pass/fail. Written examination, 5 hours. All parts of the assessment must receive passing marks.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
