PROFESSIONAL SUBJECTS: The Role of the Subject Teacher FAGLROL
Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:
- Diversity in society and the importance of adapted teaching
- Didactic theories relevant to the practical and aesthetic disciplines
- Observation as a method
Skills
The candidate can:
- Analyse curricula and justify the choice of objectives, content, teaching and learning methods and assessment methods on the basis of pedagogical and subject didactic theories and practical training in primary and secondary schools and other practical training institutions
- Use observation in areas of different learning
General competence
The candidate can:
- Analyse and discuss the importance of social development for the role of the teacher
Course Description
The course is primarily structured to prepare students for their first period of practical training and to contribute to the professional organisation of their practical experience. Students are given an introduction to didactics, observation, adapted teaching and curricula with the aim of stimulating the acquisition of professional knowledge during their practical training. Theory will be used as a tool to prepare and process observations from their period of practical training.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course includes the following teaching and learning methods:
- Lectures
- Class and study groups
- Supervision and assessment
- Visual forms of presentation and dissemination
- Work related to practical training
- Seminars
Parts of the course require compulsory attendance (see the semester plan). Regarding compulsory attendance in the study program the Faculty of Art, Folk Culture and Teacher Education (EFL) guidelines will apply; this should be considered in relation to rights and obligations of the student as stipulated in Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations, and in relation to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges § 40 and § 46.3.
Assessment Methods
Examination:
The oral examination in groups counts 100% and will be assessed on a pass-fail basis.
