Industrial Computer Communications and Networks IA5212
Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate can:
- Give a description of communication models used for local area networks
- Give an account of network operating systems
- Describe the operation of LAN hardware
- Explain the structure and operation of a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system
- Explain the real-time requirements and functions needed to achieve these requirements
- Understand the operation of an embedded system
Skills
The candidate can:
- Set up a server as a domain controller and manage users
- Design, document and operate a simple local area network
- Design and document a simple SCADA system with an alarm system and input/output devices
- Design and set up a system using OPC (Open Process Control)
General competence
The candidate can:
- Collaborate with other students on carrying out a project
Course Description
The course is divided into two components: one is theoretical, and the other involves carrying out a project. Theoretical component: Network operating systems, data communication in local area networks, hardware in local area networks, data storage, local area network design, operation and safety, operational policy and network management, SCADA system, alarm system, fieldbus, OPC protocol, embedded systems and real-time systems.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The learning outcomes are ensured through a combination of lectures, exercises and project work.
Assessment Methods
The written examination for the theoretical part counts 100 % of the course grade.
Work requirement must be approved: Video, project report, oral presentation and process.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
