Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
The candidate:
- Is able to reflect and has gained understanding related to sports and outdoor activities through supervision, team work and independent work.
- Has gained knowledge of policies, organization and volunteering.
- Has gained insight into the visions, strategies, objectives, measures and instruments associated with sport and outdoor recreation organizations, as well as government agencies and institutions, and private enterprises and companies.
- Has acquired a critical understanding of sport policy-making processes related to the Norwegian model, with an emphasis on applying sociological theoretical perspectives.
Course Description
The course focuses on society’s need for locations, areas and facilities (public spaces) viewed in the context of organised and privately arranged play, exercise, training and competition. Power and materialization will be given special attention in this regard.
The course focuses on the functional, aesthetic, material and environmental aspects of the design of public spaces for sport, physical activity and outdoor activities, and a critique of the social and cultural dimensions is also emphasised. Modern and new types of facilities will be examined. The learning processes in this course will contribute to the acquisition of knowledge - theory, methods and models related to the joint project.
Teaching and Learning Methods
40 hours of lectures, 20 hours seminars/visits.
Assessment Methods
- Submission of a group assignment, which will be assessed with a grade, which counts for 40 % of the final grade; the group assignment must receive a passing mark before students will be permitted to take the individual oral examination.
- The oral examination counts for 60 % of the final grade of the course (A-F).
