Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

  • The challenges in today's society related to sustainability, health and everyday life
  • Experiencing nature
  • The relationship between the individual and his/her surroundings in meetings with nature
  • The importance of identity related to place (identity, place and space)
  • Guidance and the guide's role in relation to specific target groups
  • How meaning is created individually, socially and culturally

Skills

The candidate can:

  • Facilitate and use simple outdoor activities with specific target groups: hiking, canoeing, harvesting, fishing, orienteering, campfires and setting up camp
  • Harvest and prepare food from nature
  • Use creative and aesthetic forms of expression as a starting point for working with nature and perception
  • Advise various groups and individuals with the aim of improving health and quality of life

General competence

The candidate can:

  • Organize outdoor activities for various groups with special needs
  • Apply knowledge from other components of the study programme in specific educational contexts with different target groups
  • Work with various groups in nature from a holistic perspective
  • Develop their own ability to use aesthetic and sensory experiences in teaching of outdoor life

Teaching and Learning Methods

  • 6 lectures
  • 5 days with supervisor
  • 2 days of individual activities
  • 5 days practical training with specific target groups

Tuition; reading of curriculum literature by students; training skills which correspond to the learning outcomes described above. All practical teaching is obligatory.

Assessment Methods

100 % compulsory participation in practical activities. Reflection assignment based on the practical aspects of the discipline. The assignment question will be handed out at the start of the course; the assignment will assess the candidate's ability to relate practice to theory. The course grade is awarded on a descending scale using letter grades from A to E for passes and F for fail.

The assessment methods are designed to assess the candidate's knowledge, skills and competence, and ability to communicate the subject; please refer to the learning outcomes above.
