Course Description

The course includes theory and methods for local development and planning work for sustainability. The course will introduce the students to different perspectives on culture and development, and culture and sustainable development. It will give an introduction to methods for cultural planning, understood as the uses of cultural resources as an integrated part of the development strategies of municipalities, places and local communities. With cultural resources is meant everything from cultural heritage, local traditions, art, entertainment, recreation, culture and media industries, sport, tourism, architecture and landscapes. The course will be based in knowledge from Norwegian communities, but will also have examples and learning resources from other countries. Comparation between different learning contexts is an added value of the course when possible.

Lectures, seminars and group work, e-learning.

Assessment Methods

Written individual term paper with assessment mid-term.
