Knowledge about modern industrial information technology.

Course Description

Relay-based control PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), PACs (Programmable Automation Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and safety systems. Human-machine interfaces. Relevant presentation of process data. Integration of control systems with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. Process databases. Data communication in industrial environments, including bus standards, wireless networks, and security. Real time operating systems and real time programming. Embedded systems and embedded control. Integration of combinatory and sequential control with continuous-time control (PID control). Testing of control systems involving e.g. hardware-in-the-loop simulation.

Learning Methods

Lectures, laboratory work, excursions.

Assessment Methods

Individual written exam counting 70% of the final grade; Project work counting 30% of the final grade.
