Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with an introduction to system development and practices, and to provide insight into the conditions that influence the system development process, such as organisational conditions and technological development. The course will acquaint students with how information technology may be used in organisations, and provide an introduction to the work involved in evaluating, acquiring and developing an information technology based system.

Course Description

System development process, process models, methods and techniques for system description, methods and techniques for system specifications, analysis and development of systems. Object-oriented methods and structures, methods for system development, UML-modelling and data modelling, prototyping and experimental system development. Strategies for system development. Information processing and quality assurance, testing, configuration management and documentation. Using CASE-tools, system and database development. Project work and the conditions for system development.

Learning Methods

6-8 hours of lectures per week in the autumn semester.

Assessment Methods

One 2-hour individual, written mid-term examination and an individual, 3-hour written final examination. The mid-term examination counts for 40% of the final grade, and the final examination for 60%. Obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the final examination. All parts of the assessment must receive passing marks.
