Process Control PEF3006
Læringsmål
The students will learn systems theory of dynamic systems, and methods and tools for design and simulation of process control systems.
Innhold
Importance of control engineering for solving process and environmental problems. Mathematical modelling of physical processes. System theory of dynamic systems. PID control. Cascade control. Feedforward control. Predictive control. Control structures for industrial processes. Logical and sequential control using PLCs. Automation technology. Using LabVIEW for analysis, design, simulation, and implementation. Introduction to HYSYS simulations of industrial plants.
Organisering
Lectures. Theoretical exercises. Computer exercises. Working in groups on laboratory and simulation assignments, involving report writing and plenary presentation.
Vurderingsformer
Evaluation (final grade) is based on parts 1, 2, and 3 as defined in the following: (1) Practical projects (laboratory work) with reports in student groups (20% weight, common grade for all students in the group). (2) Individual simulation project with report (30% weight). (3) Individual written exam (50% weight). In addition there are compulsory activities (e.g. using PC for physical input/ouput and HYSYS simulation). All of parts 1, 2, and 3 must be passed, and the participation on the compulsory activities must be approved, to get a final grade better than F.
