Palliative Care

Learning Outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

  • Theoretical foundations for
  • and treatment in palliative care
  • The nurse’s responsibilities, functions and nursing care towards patients in palliative care

Skills

The candidate can:

  • Integrate knowledge from the natural sciences, social sciences and nursing science topics when interacting with palliative care - patients, their families and other parties
  • Observe the changes and failing health related to patients situation
  • Identify and assess a patient’s resources, coping strategies to meet their basic needs in their end of life situation
  • Plan, implement, document and report nursing interventions according to evidence based nursing
  • Demonstrate the ability to care for patients and their families
  • Apply Basic Communications skills
  • Perform basic practical nursing skills independently.

General competence

The candidate can:

  • Reflect upon communication skills
  • Comply with the laws, regulations, policies and procedures of palliative care in nursing
  • Recognize ethical dilemmas and reflect on relevant courses of action
  • Plan for, evaluate and communicate own learning needs, and seek and receive guidance.

Course Description

Clinical nursing in a nursing home with a focus on the integration of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to: Patients - Nursing Interaction Context

Teaching and Learning Methods

Clinical nursing: demonstration, practice, guidance and reflection.

Assessment Methods

Clinical nursing will be assessed on a Pass/Fail basis.

Course requirements:
- developing individual learning agreement & participation in reflection groups
