After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes

Knowledge
The candidate can:

• Explain breakdown mechanisms in gases and solids
• Explain the functioning and structure of the following high voltage electrical system components: surge arresters, switches, fuses and cable

Skills
The candidate:

• Can calculate lightning voltage in high voltage electricity networks using a travelling wave model
• Can calculate voltages, electric field strength and potentials using computer programs or by hand
• Can carry out work on high voltage electrical installations in accordance with regulations
• Has completed safety training for working with high voltage installations
