A candidate who has passed the course will have a learning outcome in the form of acquired knowledge, skills, and general competence, as described below.
Knowledge
The candidate will:
- understand the basic terminology in the petroleum engineering field
- understand the basic physical principles associated with the subject
- be able to identify the main challenges with respect to production of oil and gas
- be able to describe different techniques for increased recovery
- be able to describe the main components in a petroleum process plant
- be able to describe different field development solutions
- understand the process from discovery of hydrocarbons to downstream use of hydrocarbons, with the main focus on production of oil and gas
Skills
The candidate will be able to:
- apply models for multiphase transport of fluids in wells and pipelines
- apply selected methods of well design
- use risk assessment methods applicable to petroleum engineering
General competence

The final test counts 70 %; the mid-term test counts 30 %.
Grades A-F are used. To pass the course, the final test must be passed.
