Læringsutbytte

Students should understand the meaning of the concept of sustainable development

Students should have som knowledge of key issues (such as climate change, pollution, poverty...)

Students should have an understanding of renewable energy (esp. solar and wind power)

Students should have a knowledge of environmental management tools (esp. EIA and EMS)

Students should be able to include environmental and ethical issues in decision making

Students should know about environmental and social accounting

Students should be able to critically analyse corporate environmental and social reporting

Innhold

The course covers topics such as:
- Environmental management practices and systems.
- The limitations of accounting and the strengths and weaknesses in experiments regarding environmental accounting.
- Appraising the initiatives of organisations such as the ACCA, the EU, and the United Nations with regard to improvements in environmental accounting, management and reporting.
- Evaluating best practices for sustainability reporting and reporting on community activities around the world.
- Criteria used by environmental and ethical investment funds.
- Different types of ethical investment.
- The purpose and role of environmental audit(s).

Arbeids- og læringsformer

Two hours of lectures per week and one hour of tutorial/small group work per week.

Vurderingsformer

  • Written examination, 4 hours (worth 70%)
  • Work requirements, 1 assignment (worth 30%)
