Water Processes and Ecology EET1006

Læringsmål

Learn how to analyze water related processes in industrial, domestic and natural environments, with special emphasis on the continuity principle. Fundamental analytical principles are applied to various cases, such as water and wastewater treatment, to get a grasp on how to analyze water related technological question in general. An overview of water treatment processes and effects of water pollution on aquatic ecosystems should be obtained, as well as an understanding of how sustainable solutions to such problems are obtained.

Innhold

Material, energy and momentum balance equations and transfer rate equations (transport processes). Design of pipes, pumps, heat exchangers and filters. (These subjects covering 4 credits are in common with the course Transport Processes.) Micro-, ultra-, and nano- filtration, reverse osmosis, dialyses and electric driven membrane processes are covered. Stoichiometry and kinetics of special relevance to water processes are covered, including an introduction to biological processes applied in wastewater treatment and processes occurring in aquatic ecosystems influenced by human activities. The introduction to aquatic ecology is focused on the link between the ecological balance in recipient waters, pollution and wastewater treatment demands. Laboratory exercises on aeration of water and on chemical wastewater treatment are also included in the course.

Organisering

Lectures, theoretical and experimental exercises.
