Process Control PEF3006

Læringsmål

The students will learn systems theory of dynamic systems, and methods and tools for design and simulation of process control systems.

Innhold

Importance of control engineering for solving process and environmental problems. Mathematical modelling of physical processes. System theory of dynamic systems. PID control. Cascade control. Feedforward control. Control structures for industrial processes. Model-based predictive control (MPC). Logical and sequential control. Automation technology. Using LabVIEW for analysis, design, simulation, and implementation.

Lectures. Theoretical exercises. Computer exercises. Laboratory assignment. Simulation project.

Vurderingsformer

Evaluation (final grade) is based on parts 1 and 2 as defined in the following: (1) Individual simulation project with report (30% weight). (2) Individual written exam (70% weight). There is a compulsory laboratory assignment, but this assignment is not graded. Parts 1 and 2 must be passed, and the participation on the compulsory laboratory assignment must be approved, to get a final grade better than F.
