Biodiversity and environmental management in Norway 4306

Læringsmål

The course objective is to give the students more advanced knowledge in principles of environmental and biodiversity management in Norway. Special attention will be given to how knowledge in genetic and evolutionary toxicology should be taken into consideration in nature management. Both botany and zoology will be included.

Innhold

The course will focus on the following issues:

  • environmental management authorities
  • environmental policy and legislation
  • environmental quality management and restoration
  • natural resources and biodiversity management
  • management of protected areas
  • environmental monitoring
  • how to define and measure species diversity and define threatened species
  • biodiversity and red-listed species
  • ecotoxicologi and species diversity - methods and results
  • genetechnology and species diversity
  • monitoring of species diversity - methods and results
  • indicator organisms, and their use in environmental management

Organisering

The course will be held in English.
The course include 30 hours lectures and seminars. There will also be excursions.

Vurderingsformer

The evaluation will be based on seminar reports, individual and group projects where the students have to perform research on selected problems related to environmental management and biodiversity.
