Transport Processes with CFD PT1006

Læringsmål

Get a systematic overview over material, energy and momentum balance equations and transfer rate equations (transport processes). Be able to use these equations for dimensioning of pipes, pumps, heat exchangers and filters,

and also cylinder walls and gas/particle flow.

Learn to derive the conservation equations of fluiddynamics and to solve them with numerical methods and algorithms. Learn how to model turbulence.

Innhold

Material, energy and momentum balance equations and transfer rate equations (transport processes). Dimensioning of pipes, pumps, heat exchangers and filters. (These subjects covering 4 credits are in common with the course Water Processes and Ecology.) Dimensional analysis, dimensioning of cylinder walls, particle and powder mechanics, gas/particle flow.

Derivation of general mass, momentum and energy conservation equations. Boundary conditions for the conservation equations. Turbulence and its modeling. Numerical methods and algorithms for solving the conservation equations. Solving fluiddynamic problems with CFD software such as Fluent.

Organisering

Lecture, exercises and use of CFD software.
